(KNSI) — The St. Cloud City Council will again discuss an ordinance restricting the housing areas where level three predatory offenders can live.

The topic was first discussed at a city council study session on May 20th and then again at a June 10th city council meeting. A public hearing was held on October 7th on the idea of keeping level three offenders with child victims 1,000 feet away from schools, but council members felt the ordinance wasn’t strong enough and voted to table the plans instead, asking for more options.

Three possible choices include prohibiting level three offenders with victims under 18 from living within 1,000 feet of schools and active parks or extending the restriction to parks and community centers. Another suggestion would be to broaden the buffer zone to include parks, schools, community centers, and libraries.

If a plan is selected, a public hearing on the proposal will be held on November 18th.

The issue came to light after council member Karen Larson learned that two level three predatory offenders had moved across the street from a St. Cloud elementary school. Level three offenders are considered the most likely to re-offend.

The meeting starts at 6:00.
