(KNSI) — St. Cloud State University is getting a boost to help keep students’ bellies full.

Jake Judd/KNSI News

SCSU is among two dozen campuses collecting a cut of more than $400,000 from the Office of Higher Education to help combat hunger. The campus is getting $50,000 from the Hunger Free Campus program. The school will use a $25,000 Pathways to Designation Grant to help stock its shelves and $25,000 from the Equipment Grant to fix or add any needed appliances.

The campus food shelf in Case-Hill Hall’s main lounge was remodeled and opened in November 2022. The food pantry has moved to the first floor of the Miller Center inside the library. The location helps more than 140 students and their families weekly. Food from the Second Harvest Heartland Food Shelf arrives every Friday.

The OHE’s initiative has been helping feed young adults seeking a degree in higher education since 2021.
