(KNSI) – A St. Cloud area elementary school is among 25 across Minnesota selected for a Full Service Community School Grant.

The Minnesota Department of Education has awarded part of $14.75 million to places like Discovery Community School. The idea is to turn them into local resources for families in need by building strong relationships, partnerships and webs of support. According to the MDE, they offer access to services such as health and dental care, mental health, childcare, career counseling, community-connected learning opportunities, and after-school programming.

The grant will cover the program over the next two years. Discovery is one of 13 new schools to get funded, and 12 will receive more funding to further their programming. This was the first time the state has issued the grants since 2015. The Minnesota legislature reignited the program during the 2023 legislative session to help schools serve student and family needs.

With Friday’s announcement, 38 total schools across Minnesota have received funding for the programming through the Minnesota Department of Education.
