(KNSI) — The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle head-on crash on westbound Interstate 94 Friday morning that left two people fighting for their lives.

It happened near LaBeaux Avenue/mile marker 200 in Albertville around 9:00. According to the state patrol’s preliminary crash report, a 20-year-old Foley woman was driving her 2010 Chevy Equinox east on 94 when it went through the median and drove into oncoming traffic. Where the accident happened is in a construction zone and there is no median barrier. Her SUV slammed into a westbound Ram Promaster cargo van. Both the woman and the 39-year-old Blaine man behind the wheel of the van were seriously injured.

Video from the scene showed the road was closed while medical helicopters landed on the freeway, but it has since reopened.
