(KNSI)—Another informational meeting about the proposed Stearns County Justice Center has been scheduled for late October.
The session will happen at the Waite Park City Hall on the 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Attendees will learn more about the project and why it is needed.
The new facility would be built in St. Cloud but away from the downtown area. It is estimated to cost as much as $325 million, which would either be paid for by a 3/8 cent sales tax or a hike in property taxes. The sales tax will be put before voters in a referendum this November.
Stearns County says the current facility is severely overcrowded, and many inmates are often housed elsewhere. The jail was originally built in the 1980s and no longer meets state requirements.
There is no cost to attend. Learn more about the justice center project here.
