(KNSI) – Leaf peepers, rejoice!

If you dig fall colors, the next two weeks will be heaven across Minnesota. The state’s Department of Natural Resources says much of the state’s northern half has reached at least 50% of peak. The rest of the northwoods is at 25-50% of peak, which also applies to the western edge of the state along the border with the Dakotas and around to the south, from the Minnesota River all the way over to Rochester.

Peak from Bemidji to Grand Marais will likely be in effect this weekend if you are looking to take a day trip. Typically, when the colors turn, they do so rapidly in a dry fall.

Parts of Stearns and Benton Counties are at 25-50% of peak, but the St. Cloud metro area continues to be in an area that is staying stubbornly green late into the year. A couple of good choices if you are looking to stick close to home are Sibley State Park in Kandiyohi County or Kathio and Father Hennepin State Parks near Lake Mille Lacs.
