(KNSI) — Almost the entire state of Minnesota is experiencing drought conditions, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor.

The map shows almost 94% of the state is at least abnormally dry. That’s compared to last week’s readings which showed 80% of Minnesota in a drought.

Locally, more than half of Benton County, around 25% of Sherburne County and virtually all of Stearns County are abnormally dry. Some of the harder hit areas are in the northeast, north central and south.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has enacted burning restrictions everywhere, including around St. Cloud. Only those with a variance permit are allowed to burn. There is no open burning across the Arrowhead, and campfires are not allowed in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The wildfire danger is considered very high, meaning fires start easily and spread rapidly.
