(KNSI) – Benton County is partnering with Great River Greening for a volunteer day on October 12th.

It’s scheduled at Bend in the River Regional Park from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The goal is to remove buckthorn, a pesky invasive species. In its place, native prairie grass would be planted.

Great River Greening provides all the required tools, snacks, and water. Volunteers are asked to come dressed appropriately, which includes gloves and other protective gear.

The park is located in Rice at 11231 NE River Road. The county says the outing is also a perfect opportunity to get a look at the improvements taking place at Bend in the River thanks to a grant from the State of Minnesota Legacy Fund.
