Stearns County Justice Center Project Community Events This Week

(KNSI) — Stearns County is hosting a series of community events this week, offering opportunities to learn more about the Justice Center project and its goals.

Events include open houses, jail tours, and presentations, with a virtual option available for those who cannot attend in person.

Tuesday, October 1st, people can drop by from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the St. Stephen City Hall. On Wednesday, October 2nd, there is a morning session from 9:30 to 11:30 at the St. Cloud Whitney Senior Center. There is also a virtual attendance option available via Zoom and Facebook Live. Thursday, October 3rd, there is an event from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Wendelin’s Mary Hall in Luxemburg. Also on Thursday is a tour of the Law Enforcement Center and jail. That goes from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. There is another opportunity for that on Saturday, October 5th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Preregistration for the tour is required as there are a limited number of spots available.

All evening community events are open houses, allowing attendees to come and go as needed.

County officials say a new justice center and jail are needed because the current facility is outdated and overcrowded. To pay for it, voters will be asked to approve a 3/8 cent sales tax; otherwise, a property tax increase will be used.
