(KNSI)—The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s massive Highway 10/23 Interchange project is down to the final six weeks of work, and motorists navigating the area will need to be nimble.

Officials say the area will likely look different day to day if you drive through it. Crews will switch traffic to the inside or outside lane depending on whether they are doing shoulder work or tending to the inside median. Highway 10 will continue to be one lane in each direction between Benton Drive SE and 15th Avenue SE.

Highway 23 is also one lane in each direction from Lincoln Avenue to 25th Avenue with an extra wrinkle. Eastbound traffic will switch to the new road by this Friday.

The new traffic signals controlling the access ramps and loops at the bridge will come on when everything has been opened. Engineers will monitor the lights for the first few weeks to ensure optimal timing.

The Fourth Street Bridge will service cars and pedestrians, with the walking lanes connecting to a larger trail network. The west and east frontage roads continue to be closed as that is built out.

The deadline for the project remains November 3rd.
