(KNSI) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is hailing a surge in exports for the state in the second quarter.
Between April and June, we sent $7.1 billion of goods to other countries, 17% higher than the same time last year. The country’s growth rate was a respectable five percent, but still significantly lower than Minnesota’s.
The biggest gains were to other countries in North America. Canada and Mexico both devoured over 40% more Minnesota products than the year before. Vehicle components, plastics, and food by-products were the best-performing categories.
Walz also highlighted trade with Australia, where exports increased by 18%. The Land Down Under is now the 10th largest market for Minnesota products abroad. Walz points out that he made a trade mission to the country last November.
The second quarter jump built on a strong first quarter. In the first six months of the year, exports are up 9% for the state in 2024. The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development website lists the full figures.
