(KNSI) – A St. Cloud native has been appointed to a federal judgeship in Minnesota.
Laura Provinzino was recently approved by the U.S. Senate to serve on the bench. She was nominated by President Joe Biden in June. Provinzino was born and raised in St. Cloud and attended St. Cloud Tech High School. Her mother taught at Apollo High School, and her father was a lawyer in the city. Provinzino has spent her entire legal career in Minnesota.
She has spent the last 14 years as an assistant United States attorney with Minnesota’s U.S. Attorney’s Office. Prior to that, she worked as an associate at Robins Kaplan LLP. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Lewis and Clark College in 1998 and Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. She received her law degree from Yale in 2002.
In recognition of her successful prosecution of a major international sex trafficking network, Provinzino was awarded the 2023 Attorney General’s David Margolis Award for Exceptional Service. This is the highest-ranking award bestowed by the Justice Department on a lawyer.
