(KNSI) — Voters have many choices this November, and one of them is a constitutional amendment to renew state lottery funds to be directed to outdoor conservation and preservation efforts.

In 1998, voters said yes to sending 40% of proceeds from the Minnesota State Lottery to the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, which has invested more than $1 billion in funding for the conservation and preservation of land, fish and wildlife, lakes and streams and hiking trails. That initiative will end next year unless the amendment passes. A yes vote will keep that cash flow going until 2050. Leaving the question blank will be considered a no vote. At least 50% of voters must say yes to keep it in place.

Ann Mulholland, Chapter Director of the Nature Conservancy in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, said, “Whether you have hiked on the Superior Hiking Trail, swam in one of our lakes, or protected pollinators in your garden, Minnesotans from every corner of the state have benefited from this funding.”
