(KNSI) – Two organizations have recognized CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital as one of the best at helping stroke patients survive.

The American Heart Association gave the hospital its Gold Plus rating. The distinction recognizes the commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized standards. It includes following research-based guidelines. According to a press release, that has led to more lives getting saved and reduced the number of patients ending up with disabilities. St. Cloud Hospital is one of three in Minnesota to earn the award.

Norway-based Det Norske Veritas Center bestowed the hospital with the Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification award. The honor is based on standards set by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association. It affirms that the health system addresses the full spectrum of stroke care, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education.

According to CentraCare, these two distinctions mean that patients can receive the best level of stroke care possible without the need to be transferred to another facility. The medical provider also offers telestroke services to 20 sites in central Minnesota.
