(KNSI) – Rain or shine, tonight is sure to be “Minnesota Nice.”

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota gets August started on the right foot with another summer benefit. Funds raised will support programming at 18 sites across the area. Senior Director of Communications Aimee Minnerath says the gathering is social in nature and inspired by its humble roots.

“We used to have our summer benefit out at the mayor at the time, Larry Meyer’s, backyard. So, it’s kind of a backyard picnic theme. We moved it over to the River’s Edge Convention Center in the year 2001. And it’s always been just a purely social event.”

The highlights will be a silent auction, a strolling buffet, and live music.

Minnerath says organizers plan to highlight the best of the Land of 10,000 Lakes. “You’re gonna expect a whole bunch of fun, Minnesota stuff. Buffalo plaid, Paul Bunyan, Minnesota Vikings stuff. We’re gonna have pine trees and campfire stuff. It’s just gonna look like a full, picknicky, Minnesota North Woods motif.”

The event is Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. A link to purchase tickets is here.
