(KNSI) – Aslan Health Clinic opens in downtown St. Cloud on Thursday, offering underserved people a healthcare facility focusing on helping those who need it the most.

Aslan is for people on government health insurance. The faith based clinic will offer varying hours with special attention to being open later at night and on Saturdays.

Operated by Clay and Rebecca White, Clay handles the administrative duties while Rebecca takes her 18 years of experience in family medicine with CentraCare to her new role as the clinic’s Medical Director and full-time family physician. She told KNSI News by not going through the hassle of dealing with insurance, “That allows us to take the overhead away, so we’re focusing on affordable health care. We’re not a free clinic. We’re an affordable clinic.”

After hearing a Ted Talk from a man in Denver operating a similar clinic, the couple decided to start their own. There are other facilities in Memphis and Phoenix, but this is the first in Minnesota. They are seeking donations and volunteers at all levels to help keep the practice affordable.

They offer a cash-pay fee schedule with a sliding scale for financial needs, so there’s no sticker shock.

Rebecca says Aslan can take care of “Anything that you would go to your family practice clinic for is the design. This is a family practice clinic.” If someone is looking for treatment of a broken leg or other serious trauma, they would need to go to another facility.

The doors to the walk-in-only clinic are located at 1400 West St. Germain Street.
