(KNSI) – A St. Cloud lawmaker has been endorsed by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers’ Association for reelection.
State Representative Dan Wolgamott announced the backing of the boys in blue on Monday. The endorsement is one of the state’s most coveted. Wolgamott received the recommendation for helping to increase funding for law enforcement across the state. His next goal is to work on legislation to boost recruitment and retention and achieve first-responder status for 911 dispatchers.
Wolgamott was also the MPPOA’s 2023 legislator of the year. Last year, he helped secure $300 million in funding for local law enforcement, including over $3 million each for the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Cloud Police Department.
The endorsement comes even after the lawmaker was arrested for driving under the influence in July 2023. He pleaded guilty in August to second-degree DWI and was fined $400. Wolgamott is part of the DFL Party’s House leadership. He was selected as speaker pro tempore for the last legislative session.
The MPPOA represents 10,700 Minnesota public safety professionals.
