Stearns County Jail

(KNSI) – A man has been charged with arson after allegedly setting a fire in a hotel room in St. Cloud.

Firefighters were called to the AmericaInn around 3 pm on Sunday.

Investigators say the hotel room had fire damage to the bathroom door, several burnt items on the ground, and water damage from the sprinkler system.

According to the criminal complaint, police found a glass pipe on the floor.

Officers learned Edward Loius Andres was staying in the room.

The 42-year-old from Houston, Texas, told police that three people had been following him, and when he returned to his room, the three people were in his room.

Anders says he shut himself in the bathroom and put flaming toilet paper by the door because he didn’t have a cell phone.

Andres denied using drugs but admitted he relapsed a month ago.

Hotel staff stated they didn’t see anyone other than Andres coming and going.

Andres has been charged with Arson in the first degree. His next court hearing is on May 5th.
