(KNSI) – A first-time entrant from St. Joseph in the Princess Kay of the Milky Way competition is trying to play the role of a dark horse in this year’s competition.

Stearns County Dairy Princess Selena Corona qualified for a shot at the crown in dramatic fashion. Corona gathered her family around and nervously listened as the names were read aloud. “And there’s only ten finalists, and number nine still wasn’t me. And I’m like, ‘Oh, I don’t know. I didn’t get it.’ But then I was number ten. I was like, ‘Oh My God. this is actually happening.’ And I was just so excited. I screamed.”

She stated it’d been a dream to compete for the Princess Kay title for a while. KNSI News asked how she would use the leftover butter from her State Fair statue. “I’ll probably eventually have a baked potato feed and a sweet corn feed together for my community, friends, and family. I think that’d be a great way to use it. You need butter for both of those things. And even then, I still might have tons left over.”

Corona works on a dairy farm near St. Martin, where she helps milk the cows and performs other tasks. One day, she hopes to be a large animal veterinarian.

The Princess Kay winner will be announced the day before the Great Minnesota Get-Together, which will take place from August 22nd to September 2nd.

Corona is one of two candidates from Stearns County running for the title. The other is Grace Woitalla from Holdingford.
