(KNSI) – Two people were hurt when a home in rural Stearns County caught fire.

The sheriff’s office says the fire started in an upstairs bedroom at 35274 County Road 4 in St. Wendel Township, about three miles northwest of St. Joseph, around 2:30 on Saturday afternoon.

When firefighters arrived, they found 70-year-old Dana Crosswhite outside the house sitting in her car.

She told officials that her son, 47-year-old Theodore Dirks of St. Joseph, was still inside on the main level.

Deputies and firefighters got him out of the home, and he was taken by ambulance for treatment. Paramedics also took Crosswhite to the hospital.

Deputies say the victims suffered nonlife-threatening injuries.

Firefighters put out the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
