(KNSI) – Pheasants Forever announced Tuesday that Stearns County officially has a new park, but what it should be called is still up in the air.

It’s located just southwest of Cold Spring along the shore of Kraus Lake. The 249-acre parcel will focus on wildlife habitat conservation, but there will be plenty of recreational opportunities for visitors. A boat landing, bathrooms, campground, fishing pier, and picnic shelter are planned for the park.

Farmland will be returned to prairies, and there are woods, a trout stream, and a heron rookery. With the vision in place, Stearns County Parks Department staff are looking for help choosing a name for the facility.

They have narrowed it down to three options: Chain of Lakes County Park, Chain of Lakes County Park and Conservation Area, or Kinzer Creek Conservation Area. The department says parks are traditionally named for a nearby water feature or town.

The survey is available until July 9th. A link is here.
