(KNSI) – “A new Emerson College/The Hill poll reinforces the idea that Minnesota is in play for Republicans this November.
The measure shows the presidential race between incumbent Joe Biden and Donald Trump is a dead heat at 45% apiece. Earlier this month, a KARE 11/Star Tribune poll had the race within the margin of error.
Former president Trump has long coveted the Land of 10,000 Lakes and aggressively sought to turn it red in 2016 when he broke down the ‘Blue Wall,’ winning Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin on his way to the White House. Central Minnesota tends to be fairly conservative in its voting habits. Trump is targeting blue-collar workers along the Iron Range and suburbanites in a state he lost by about 40,000 votes in 2016.
Biden was able to expand on Hillary Clinton’s performance, winning by a more comfortable 230,000+ vote margin, or about 7%. Minnesota last voted Republican in 1972 when Richard Nixon coasted to a landslide 49-state win against George McGovern.”
