(KNSI) – A flood watch is in effect just to our south.

It includes Wright County due to a forecast of major flooding on the Crow River and the South Fork Crow River. Delano and Rockford are just a couple of the cities that are preparing sandbags and temporary levees.

The National Weather Service expects it to reach over 21.5 feet in spots, less than two feet from the all-time record at the recording buoy near Delano. Perhaps even more concerning is the long-term nature of the expected flooding. The crest is not predicted until Thursday, June 27th.

To the north, hydrologists are expecting the Mississippi River to reach the action stage near Fort Ripley and Little Falls. That means it will likely crest just below minor flood stage, but precautions are appropriate.

The flash flood watch will last until Saturday at 1:00 p.m. It was triggered by the possibility of 5+ inches of rain throughout parts of south central Minnesota.
