(KNSI) – St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis was honored for the city’s environmental efforts Thursday.
The 92nd U.S. Conference of Mayors Annual Meeting is being held in Kansas City, Missouri, where it’s handing out hardware for reducing carbon use and emissions. St. Cloud was part of the 18th class selected for the recognition, along with Reno, Nevada.
The conference’s CEO and Executive Director, Tom Cochran, says, “The mayors being honored today – and so many others in cities everywhere – serve as powerful reminders that such leadership is how we can secure this future for our nation and the planet.”
Kleis added, “Our city’s energy transformation focuses on community-wide solutions for sustainability and environmental protection.” He exclaims, “This innovative commitment to integrating energy and sustainability work with cost-effective solutions and local economy benefits is St. Cloud’s response to addressing climate and environmental challenges.”
The initial goal for St. Cloud was to generate enough renewable energy to power 75% of city services by 2035. We hit 100% fifteen years earlier than the target, back in 2020.
