Rep. Dan Wolgamott Hosts ‘Donuts With Dan’ Event on June 24th at St. Cloud Library

(KNSI) — On Monday, June 24th, Representative Dan Wolgamott (D-St. Cloud) is hosting a Donuts With Dan event.

A press release from his office says, “It’s great to be back in St. Cloud after a historically productive legislative biennium, and I want to touch base with constituents about what we accomplished and the work that remains,” said Rep. Wolgamott. “I invite you to join me for delicious donuts and quality conversations!”

Rep. Wolgamott invites constituents to RSVP with a preferred time and topic to discuss the issues important to them. The event will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Great River Regional Library in the Bremer Room, 104. Last year, the Legislature had what they called a “momentous session” by removing provisions for the 24 hour abortion waiting period, parental notification for minors seeking an abortion and allowing late term abortions. It also labeled Minnesota a trans refuge state, which protects them from legal consequences for coming to this state for “gender affirming care.” Lawmakers passed a $3 billion tax bill, the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act, state aid for schools, universal school meals program for free breakfast and lunch for all students. Driver’s licenses for all regardless of immigration status, and legalized recreational marijuana also passed.

The 2024 Legislative Session ended in chaos with no bonding bill passed, meaning many small towns were shut out of getting state dollars to fund municipal infrastructure projects. The Equal Rights Amendment was also hung up this year. That would have offered protections for the LGQBTIA+ community and unfettered access to abortion at any time for any reason at any stage of pregnancy. What did pass were gun control measures banning binary triggers, increasing penalties for straw buyers, and changes to the paid leave law, resulting in a higher payroll tax. The Health and Human Services policy package addressing funding surrounding ambulance service personnel, emergency medical responders, health insurance, medical assistance, mental health, and pharmacies was also included.

All 134 House seats are up for election this fall.
