(KNSI) – The Benton County Board of Commissioners will deliberate Tuesday on making additional improvements to Bend in the River County Park, after a previous project came in significantly under budget.
The 2022 legacy grant low bid was over $181,000 below the budget, leaving the county with unspent funds from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The contract requires a 15% match from Benton County, and Watab Township has agreed to chip in an additional $4,000. The governments will work with SRF Consulting Group to ensure the leftover money is used for a surprise Phase 2 of the project.
SRF will do design work that could lead to resurfacing trails, adding a well, building a small shelter on the south end of the park, and installing new signage and benches. The county’s park commission has already approved the issue.
The design work will be completed by the end of the year. The board of commissioners meets at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.
