(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Police Department is going to the dogs.

A new community engagement program is like Neighborhood Watch, but with an extra head scratch or two for man’s best friend. Dog Walker Watch was started nationally in 2018, and is designed to teach those who are strolling on the sidewalk with their pet each evening with basic tips and tricks to help deter crime.

You’ll learn how to determine what is suspicious activity and what to do when you come across it. Other lessons over the course of a year focus on burglary prevention, cameras and alarms, and severe weather safety.

The program starts with an open house at the SCPD Headquarters on 11th Avenue North in downtown on Thursday, May 30th, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Grab your pup and make sure they stay on a leash as they get to take a tour of the facility. There will be plenty of goodies and more information on how to enroll in the Dog Walker Watch program.

Your best buddy might even find a new play partner. Think of it as a trip to the dog park with more badges present.
