(KNSI) – People around Central Minnesota were in for a surprise when they opened their blinds Sunday morning as a thick heavy blanket of snow fell overnight Saturday night into Sunday morning.

An intense heavy band of snowfall was expected to fall over southwestern Minnesota through the Twin Cities and into western Wisconsin moved north, putting central Minnesota in the bull’s eye for the heaviest snowfall.

The National Weather Service says the leader of the pack was Pleasant Lake with 8.5″, followed by South Haven with 8.2″. Willmar and Kimball each got 7.5″ Paynesville got 6.5″, and Clearwater got 6″. Albany, Sauk Rapids, St. Cloud, and St. Joseph each got four inches.

More snow fell overnight Sunday night into Monday morning, leaving another inch or two behind.

After a high around 20 today, temps will get into the 40s for the remainder of the week.
