Highway 10/23 Interchange Construction Starts Year Two Ahead of Schedule

(KNSI) – The mild winter has allowed crews to get back to work on the Highway 10/Highway 23 interchange project early.

Construction Project Manager Rob Abfalter says every little bit helps ensure things reopen on time at the end of this year. “We started about three weeks ahead of time, just to get going to make sure that we can get things done this year yet.”

They began with bridge work on west Highway 10 and putting up walls. Snow halted things for a couple of weeks before they were able to restripe the lanes on 10 and 23 and shift traffic.

Last year, several city projects were happening nearby, and MnDOT was responsible for utility work at several intersections. Abfalter says with that out of the way, progress should be quicker in 2024.

He notes a ramp available to motorists last year is off-limits this time around. “The major differences between last year and this year, essentially, is that there are two more detours that were put up. If you’re on ten and you’re heading north or heading west on ten and you want to go east on Foley, we have a detour set up there at the 15th Avenue right cut up by Culvers there where you got to take a left, and then come around, and access 23 at Lincoln, over there.”

The other major detour is to divert east traffic onto Highway 15 near Sartell and use that as a detour through St. Cloud. Luckily for motorists, there is less city and county construction in the area in 2024 making it easier to avoid orange barrels.
