(KNSI) — The Department of Veterans Affairs crushed last year’s enrollment numbers for healthcare benefits in Minnesota.

Data shows 4,731 veterans signed up for benefits in the last 365 days, a 21.29% increase. Nationally, 401,006 veterans signed up for health over the past year, a 30% jump compared to the year before.

Officials say the PACT Act made the historic enrollment possible, which has allowed the VA to expand health care and benefits to millions. As of March 5th, all veterans exposed to toxins and other hazards while serving in the military and meeting certain requirements became eligible to enroll directly in VA health care. Service members who never deployed but were exposed to toxins while training can also get help.

VA is also conducting a $16 million outreach campaign that includes over 2,600 events since the passage of the PACT Act to reach all who can be helped.
