(KNSI) — The woman accused of abducting a three-year-old boy over the weekend is facing numerous charges.
The Todd County Attorney’s Office says an AMBER Alert was issued Friday night after 35-year-old Jennifer Stately allegedly took the child and disappeared. The two were found about an hour and a half later on Highway 71.
The boy’s body was covered in lesions and scabs, which are believed to have come from potential chemical or heat burns and not a skin condition, according to doctors. Authorities say the child had a strong body odor, indicating he may not have been bathed or had his pants changed “in a few days,” according to the charging documents. An examination showed he could hardly walk, was anemic, low on potassium, and had teeth so rotten he couldn’t eat a cheese stick.
Stately is charged with third degree assault, child torture, child neglect, and malicious punishment of a child, which are all felonies. If convicted, she faces up to 25 years in prison.
