(KNSI) – Starting Thursday, 25 cents from every McDonald’s Shamrock Shake or Oreo Shamrock McFlurry order will be donated to Minnesota’s six Ronald McDonald houses.
The mint-flavored specialty items are seasonal, available for most of February and March to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day and the beginning of spring. The charity initiative is taking place at 225 restaurants across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the western Upper Peninsula.
Ronald McDonald Houses allow families to be close to their children while they are receiving medical care. They stay free, get fresh-cooked meals, and have access to laundry services. Siblings are taken care of with plenty of scheduled children’s activities.
Regional restaurants have run the Ronald McDonald House Charities fundraiser for 11 years now. Almost $840,000 has been donated since 2014. McDonald’s Minnesota Co-Op president Melissa Kennedy says, “We’re truly grateful for our customers’ support of this wonderful cause.”
It runs until March 17th.
