(KNSI) – A Sauk Rapids man is dead, and another person is fighting for her life after a single-vehicle accident in Maywood Township Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 2:30 in the 15000 block of 115th Street NE. A 33-year-old man was driving a 2007 Kia Rondo with his 56-year-old mother in the passenger seat. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle was eastbound when it ran into the ditch on the south side of the road.

The car made it about 100 feet in the ditch before it struck a driveway approach and was launched into the air. It landed sideways and rolled. Deputies arrived at the scene to find the Rondo on its roof. Joseph Alexander McCullough was declared dead at the scene. The press release says he may have been impaired. Speed is also thought to have played a role in the accident.

The mother was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment after being extricated from the car. The investigation into the crash is still taking place.

Assisting at the scene were the Foley Fire Department, North Memorial Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
