(KNSI) — Democratic District 14B Representative Dan Wolgamott has a challenger.

St. Cloud native Sue Ek announced her candidacy for the Republican party’s nomination on KNSI’s Hot Talk With the Ox.

She filed her candidacy Tuesday morning and has a website domain.

The 61-year-old Ek ran for office in 2005 but had to drop out due to a technicality. She has also served as campaign manager for King Banian both in his victory and defeat, she was a member at large for the GOP and is also a delegate for the Republican Party of Minnesota.

Ek has a background as the Communications Director for NFP Outreach, Director Emerita and Consultant to BOMA-USA, past board member of Birthline and Project Life and past finance chair and past Parish Council President for the Church of St. Augustine in St. Cloud.

She is running on a platform supporting law enforcement and school resource officer programs, school choice including homeschooling, being business friendly, and keeping taxes manageable. She is also pro-life, pro-woman and pro-family, and says Wolgamott’s values do not align with the people he is representing. Ek added he was quick to raise taxes and remove parental rights as Wolgamott voted in favor of allowing minors unfettered abortion access and to change their gender without parental notification or consent last session.

Tuesday, February 27th, is caucus night, and Ek has delegates lined up. For St. Cloud, the process begins at 7:00 p.m. at Apollo High School, but she says to get there early to find the correct room for neighborhoods and districts.

The state GOP endorsing convention is March 23rd. Ek says she will respect the endorsement process and not go to the primary if she is not the party’s candidate.

Ek attended St. Aug’s for grade school and graduated from Cathedral High School before attending St. Mary’s in Winona. She has never been married and has no kids, but she has a dog named Sophie, who she says people will see on the campaign trail and in photos.
