(KNSI) – Winter weather wreaked havoc on the roads during the biggest snowstorm of the season.
The Minnesota State Patrol says between 7:00 a.m. Wednesday and 7:00 a.m. Thursday, they responded to 563 crashes and spinouts. One of those near Elk River was fatal, two others involved serious injuries. Troopers also responded to nearly a dozen jackknifed semis.
The storm system dumped between two and four inches of snow in the St. Cloud area. Eden Valley and Kimball saw nearly six inches of the white stuff. The heaviest hit areas were in the Twin Cities suburbs. Cities like Eagan and Shakopee got 7.2 inches—the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport recorded 6.9 inches of snow, which nearly matched their recorded snowfall for the entire 2023-2024 winter season.
