(KNSI) – Rep. Kurt Daudt’s seat won’t be vacant long.

The former majority leader and District 27B Republican lawmaker announced earlier this year that he was stepping down from his position in the legislature. On Tuesday, Governor Tim Walz issued a Writ of Special Election to fill the seat next month.

The district covers parts of Anoka, Isanti, Mille Lacs, and Sherburne Counties. Affidavits of candidacy will only be accepted by the Secretary of State or county auditors on Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

If there are enough candidates, a special primary would happen Thursday, February 29th. It all leads to a general election on Tuesday, March 19th. The winner would be seated for the rest of the 2024 legislative session, which runs until May.

They would have to run again and win in November to remain the 27B representative.
