(KNSI) – The sap is already running among the maple trees at Kraemer Lake-Wildwood County Park.
Officials say sap lines are being used to collect the sugary goodness, which presents a potential danger for users of the trails at the facility. The Parks Department is urging you to use caution while hiking on the property. If snow comes, that would apply even more so to Nordic skiers.
Contact with the lines could hurt you or damage the equipment. Wildwood Ranch Maple Syrup was first started in 1979. It schedules open houses in late winter so you can learn more about what it takes to make syrup. Its amber variety was honored as “Best in Show” at the Minnesota State Fair in 2023.
The park spreads out across 265 acres with a half mile of lake shoreline. It’s located in St. Joseph.
