(KNSI) — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Willmar on Sunday morning.
The incident took place at about 8:10 as an officer was responding to a call from a man who said he had been threatened by a person with a knife. After arriving on the scene, the caller was speaking with the officer outside the building. A release from the Willmar Police Department says that’s when the suspect charged the two from a doorway.
The officer said he immediately tried to get away from the suspect and gave repeated commands to stop. He said the suspect continued advancing toward the officer and threatening him, so he fired at the man who fled the scene.
He was taken into custody shortly thereafter and was taken to CentraCare Rice Memorial Hospital before being transferred to another facility.
The officer was also hurt but was treated at the scene. He is expected to be OK. No word on the suspect’s condition.
