(KNSI) – When asked by KNSI News about why she has chosen to run for reelection, state Representative Bernie Perryman says she still has unfinished business in St. Paul.
The 14A representative says one of those agenda items is returning to the concepts of law and order and respect for police. She talked about how disappointed she was to see Minnesota State Patrol trooper Ryan Londregan criminally charged.
“I agree with Representative Demuth 100% that our police are just so disrespected. And they get kicked. And they just feel so down sometimes. If we don’t support them and our judges don’t support them, and the system doesn’t support them, why would you want to be a policeman in this kind of environment?”
Other “unfinished business” includes repealing the state tax on Social Security income.
Perryman says there might be some differences in how she campaigns this time. “I need to door knock more than I did. And I also need to bring people along with me. My family and I were the door knockers of the world, we did very well, but I need to convince others…young people, others to get involved with this process.”
Perryman enters the campaign on the back of a record fundraising haul for District 14A in a non-election year, which will help with the ground game. She says candidly that she doesn’t love to ask people for money. She has found success by treating her fundraising events more like mini-town halls.
Perryman won the 2022 general election by less than 200 votes. Her district includes south St. Cloud, Waite Park, and St. Augusta.
