(KNSI) – Warm temperatures will impact this year’s Brainerd Jaycee Ice Fishing Extravaganza.
A hybrid format is being adopted, similar to what was used during the COVID-19 pandemic. The group is sticking to February 3rd for the event but adding hours in the early morning and into the evening when temps retreat to a safer range.
Another change is the location. It has been extended to several area lakes rather than only Gull Lake, about 10 miles north of the city. Anglers will use the Fish Donkey app, and there will be volunteers at access points across the area to help provide tech support for those unfamiliar with entering information into the program.
Online ticket sales end Thursday. The cost is $50 per person, plus an extra $10 to be in the Catch of the Day Contest. Proceeds go to area nonprofits and charities.
You can still pick up passes at area Fleet Farm stores and other participating locations until closer to the extravaganza. The forecast for the Brainerd area on February 3rd is currently for low-40s with sun. That’s well above average for this time of the year.
