(KNSI) – There’s a new safe space to meet for exchanges in Waite Park.
The city set aside two parking stalls at its public works building, 670 17th Avenue South, near The Ledge Amphitheater. The area is marked in blue. Public Works Director Bill Schluenz explained that it is available anytime. “We have a large parking lot. It’s under 24-hour surveillance, and it is lit at night for exchanges that need to happen after dark.”
The spot is intended for people buying and selling things online or for child custody exchanges.
Police Chief Anthony Reznicek hopes it makes meeting people easier in those uncertain moments. “I encourage all citizens, when exchanging goods or having custody exchanges, to feel free to come over to the Waite Park Public Works and use our spot.”
Other departments with safe exchange zones include the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Big Lake Police Department, and Sartell Police Department.
