(KNSI) – Look! Up in the sky, it’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s kites!
The Buffalo Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its sixth annual Kites On Ice Festival on Saturday, February 10th. President Sue Olmscheid says nearly two dozen people are bringing a colorful assortment of flyers to ride the wind.
“We’ve got about 20 coming, and we’ve got a couple coming from England. These kiters are just giddy. You know, it’s like what they get for Christmas, and they can’t wait to put their big scuba divers and the unicorn in the sky.”
Olmscheid says all the color and pageantry draw quite the crowd. “We have quite a few people come from all over the state to see it. And a lot of our kiters, you know, come from Wisconsin and the Dakotas and Iowa. And, so, I think that they bring along some of their groupies as well.”
Olmscheid says parking can be a challenge, but plenty of fun is in store, making it more than worth it.
Food trucks will be serving hot chocolate to hot eats. Kids will get a free kite to fly. A bags tournament, beer garden, dog sled rides, and pond hockey are all on the docket. Olmscheid says they will have two teams of sled dogs to ensure the lines don’t get too long for those catching a ride. The hockey tournament will have adult and youth divisions.
