(KNSI) – A destination over a decade in the making will open its doors in downtown St. Cloud in 2024.
The Great River Children’s Museum plans to invite the public into its 7th Street South location late in the year. The site is expected to draw around 125,000 visitors annually. It will be Minnesota’s second-largest children’s museum, serving over 500,000 residents in 12 counties and catering to over 120 elementary schools in 64 districts.
The 25,000-square-foot floor space will include eight interactive exhibits that let kids learn through play. There will also be traveling exhibits.
The Great River Children’s Exploratorium committee was first formed in 2012. In 2018, Liberty Bank donated its old building, giving the museum a home, and a board of directors was named. In 2021, The Coborn Family Foundation and Anderson Trucking donated $1 million to the project, helping push it to its halfway mark. The museum received $7 million from the state’s bonding bill in 2023 to put them over the top.
GRCM will be holding special experiences at branches of the Great River Regional Library from now through August of 2024.
