(KNSI) — The City of St. Cloud is reminding property owners of the snow removal ordinance after the area picked up a couple of inches of snow Monday and Tuesday morning.

The ordinance says snow must be cleared from public sidewalks within 24 hours of a snowfall event.

St. Cloud’s website reads, “Sidewalks must remain cleared the full width for pedestrians. Snow from driveways should be piled in the yard and boulevard. Pushing snow into streets, alleyways or sidewalks is prohibited.” Fines of $250 can be assessed each time that happens.

Bare pavement should be treated with salt or sand if needed. Those with a corner property also need to clear curb cuts at corners and crosswalks to the street gutter for handicap accessibility.

If a sidewalk is not cleared, the city will clear it for a minimum charge of $160. The charges can also be tacked on to property tax statements, and a $50 charge will be added if an account is certified to the County Auditor’s office for collection.

To report an unshoveled sidewalk, please contact Public Works at 320-650-2900.
