(KNSI) — The Minnesota Department of Health is teaming up with local health officials to raise awareness about the dangers of radon building up in homes and the importance of getting homes tested for it.
January is National Radon Action Month.
Radon is an odorless, colorless gas that occurs naturally in soil. It is the leading environmental cause of cancer deaths and the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers, according to the Surgeon General. The MDH says more than 40% of homes in the state have dangerous radon levels.
Testing is easy, inexpensive and only takes three to five days to complete. Test kits are available by clicking here.
A testing professional can also come and do it. Learn more by clicking here.
