(KNSI) – The Stearns County commissioners have voted themselves a raise.
The five elected officials will get a 5% boost in pay in 2024. That brings their salary from $41,952 to $44,050, a $2,098 increase. Commissioners get no per diems. They will still be able to get mileage and expenses reimbursed.
County administrator Mike Williams explained how the commissioners came up with the figures. “What they did was they followed the average raise for county employees. They had a 2% raise in January. And then, many of our employees get a step increase as well, which jumps out up to about an average of 5%. So they did a 5% raise to themselves.”
By comparison, Benton County commissioners are paid $31,500 a year with per diems, and Sherburne County pays their board $56,000. Wright County commissioners have a salary of $63,900.
