(KNSI) – A state oversight group is recommending aid to help expand Rockville County Park.

The Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission approved $210,000 to add 19 acres on the northern end of the Stearns County property. It still must wind its way through the Minnesota Legislature. Funding for the purchase would come from the Parks and Trails Legacy Fund as part of its Fiscal Year 2025 budget.

The money can only be spent on parks and trails that are significant on a regional or statewide basis. Rockville County Park was one of 14 across the state to receive funding for fiscal year 2025. The projects total over $16 million.

Rockville County Park is already 294 acres in size. It includes a stretch of land bordering the Sauk River, forest, granite outcroppings, prairies, and swamp. There are trails for hiking and horseback riding, plus snowshoeing in the wintertime.
