(KNSI) – CentraCare-St. Cloud Hospital is recognized as one of the best places to have a baby.

The birth center has been ranked as high-performing in maternity care by the U.S. News & World Report. The rating only goes to birthing centers that score well above average for unexpected complications, C-sections, and mothers who are breastfeeding. It was the first year the center applied for the award.

The facility was also honored as a maternity care access hospital. The new designation recognizes medical providers giving quality care to areas of the country that would be maternity deserts if not for the hospital.

Of the 680 hospitals that submitted maternity data to U.S. News & World Report this year, 311 earned a high-performing rating, and only 42 earned both awards.

In August, U.S. News & World Report rated St. Cloud Hospital as high-performing in cardiology, pulmonology, and urology. CentraCare also got high marks for its treatment of leukemia/lymphoma/myeloma, colon cancer, prostate cancer, heart attacks and diabetes.
