(KNSI) — Stearns County says its portion of the Beaver Island Trail expansion is now open to the public.
It began the construction of a 10-foot-wide paved path from Opportunity Drive in southeast St. Cloud to Clearwater in September. According to a press release, there are still some final details to complete, but bikers, hikers, and other non-motorized vehicles are now welcome. Beginning on December 1st, snowmobiles are allowed on the trail as well.
The City of St. Cloud already maintains the western edge of the trail. It is working to link that to the county’s portion. The connecting stretch will run east from River Bluffs Regional Park to Opportunity Drive.
All of the work is expected to be complete by next year, when an official grand opening ceremony will be held.
