(KNSI) – St. Cloud State University receives nearly $2 million from the National Science Foundation.
The grant is a part of the Resource Collaborative for Immersive Technologies or RECITE, initiative. It will help the school’s trade classes incorporate the latest in augmented and virtual reality into its training programs.
The National Science Foundation says there is a significant gap among two-year colleges in adopting modern technology for the classroom. The goal is to use extended reality in curriculum across a range of degree programs.
The grant will be focused in SCSU’s Visualization Laboratory. Director Mark Gill says, “Students from all disciplines will be able to take advantage of the practical experience. It will lower the barrier to entry for educators interested in using XR [Extended Reality] in their classes, and it solidifies SCSU’s status as a nexus for XR-centric innovation and collaborations.”
College of Science and Engineering Dean Adel Ali says SCSU will use the RECITE grant to become a leader in the space.
